Certificate in Teaching Second Languages, specializing in Teaching International and Heritage Languages
The certificate brochure is attached here, and additional information is available on the U of Calgary website. The program can be completed entirely online, although we offer some face-to-face sessions for the Calgary-based teachers. Level 1 certificate consists of four courses and covers the fundamentals of teaching second languages, linguistics, and teaching skills and systems. Level 2 certificate has four additional courses and provides a more comprehensive study of the field. Each course lasts for eight weeks (with the exception of the 10-week course TSL Fundamentals) and requires approximately six hours of studying per week.
Online courses can be completed from anywhere in the world with a computer and reliable internet connection. Students are required to take the prerequisite course ‘Learning Online’ before
starting their certificate courses. This
three-week course provides a thorough introduction to online learning and helps students develop the skills they need to be successful.
